Welcome!
I often heard the common warning "The first year is the hardest!" in regards to a career in teaching. I, however, cannot agree as my second year has proven to be the most challenging of the two! Undoubtedly the extra math class and double the amount of math students added to the busyness of this year. Also, two big projects- the Scope and Sequence, and the Guided Note Packets (located in tabs "REFLECTION" and "COMMUNICATION" respectively)- took up the majority of my prep time during and after school. I have dubbed my first year of teaching "The Experimental Year." I tried all different types of lessons and activities in my math class, reflecting often in order to determine which worked best for me and my students. The second year has been "The Building Year," as I have created and accumulated a lot of materials to supplement and strengthen the mathematics curriculum. The third year will be "The Tweaking Year." I plan to revise some lessons and organize my curriculum in specific unit plans. Furthermore, I wish to align state and federal benchmarks with our own Scope and Sequence. Thus, Reader, as you navigate through this portfolio, know that the activities and the materials are all "works in progress!" ENJOY! :)
